Sefton Park, located in South Liverpool is home to the Grade 2* listed Palm House. This ‘Great Conservatory’, described as ‘the jewel in Liverpool’s Sefton Park’ was a gift to the city of Liverpool by local benefactor Henry Yates Thompson. The Palm House has gone through several cycles of refurbishment over its 130 year life. Hive projects were commissioned to oversee the latest round of improvements and restoration works which was delivered across two Phases.
Phase 1, completed in 2025, saw the complete overhaul of the lower ground floor, including extensive remodelling of their public facing WC and circulation areas, the provision of a new “bridal suite” to enhance their user experience when renting the facility out for weddings and the modernisation of their existing office and back of house spaces. Additional improvement works to the external public realm areas were undertaken to provide new features and attractions. Phase 2 was delivered during 2026 and was the transformation and fit out of their new bar / café area. The existing area was not fit for purpose and required careful design management to provide a modular system that could provide flexibility to accommodate the multitude of functions and events that the Palm House hosts.
