Liz Hartley

Director & Founder
BSc (Hons), MCIOB, APMP, Prince 2, MSP

I have 20 years of experience in a wide range of sectors but specialising in Healthcare. What I enjoy most about my role is that I get to be involved throughout the project lifecycle, whether that is at concept stage working through the Business Cases, procurement of the design team, contract development and administration, right through to on site delivery and operational commissioning. I work collaboratively with Clients and their teams so we deliver the best outcomes for the project. One project that holds a special place in my heart is the Wrexham Maelor Mental Health Scheme. It was one of my first ventures, and I had the privilege of being involved right from the beginning until the unit became operational. It was a fantastic opportunity for me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire project lifecycle, which has been incredibly beneficial in my subsequent work.

Working in the construction industry you learn quickly to find your voice and stand up for yourself. I had to learn to be assertive and confident in a male-dominated environment, and it was a transformative experience that shaped me both personally and professionally.

I like to think that both as a company and as an individual we leave an impact with the projects we work on. I believe everyone has a role to play in utilising our projects as platforms to engage with the local community and establish long-term relationships. My approach goes beyond the immediate objectives of the project; it extends to investing in the local economy, creating employment opportunities, and supporting positive environmental change.

Chris Waine

Project Director
BSc (Hons), MRICS, MSP ®, Treasury Better Business Case Practitioner

With over 20 years of experience in the construction industry, I have had the privilege of spearheading some of the most intricate capital projects and programmes across various sectors, including health, local government, education, and residential.

Having served as a Project Director and Chartered Quantity Surveyor for a considerable period, my expertise proves invaluable in offering clients essential guidance to make well-informed investment decisions. I specialise in cost management, project management, and programme management, which enables me to effectively handle projects of varying complexities and values. By leveraging my skills and experience, I assist clients in navigating the intricacies of their projects, particularly in areas such as capital and operational expenditure. My ultimate goal is to ensure that clients can optimise their built asset investments and achieve their strategic objectives.

As the Vice Chair of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, one of the most rewarding aspects of my role there is the regular opportunity to support and assist charities, businesses, and educational organisations in their efforts to generate positive outcomes. It brings me great satisfaction to contribute to the valuable work they carry out, making a difference to the local community, fostering cross sector collaboration and engendering growth in the City Region.

Mackayla Colwell

Director & Founder
BSc (Hons), MCIOB, APMP, Prince 2

I have been fortunate to navigate the realm of project management for over 15 years, working with two of the world’s leading built asset consultancies.

Throughout my career, my primary focus has been on the health sector, where I have had the privilege of contributing to several notable projects. These include The Christie Proton Beam Therapy Centre, Altrincham Hospital, Macclesfield Cancer Centre, and North Manchester General Hospital. Being involved in these landmark schemes has been incredibly fulfilling, knowing that my efforts have made a significant impact on healthcare facilities and the well-being of patients.

Mental Health and Wellbeing has always been a cause close to my heart. From the very beginning of establishing Hive, it was our collective vision to create a work environment where people would genuinely want to be a part of, feel supported, and know that their wellbeing is of utmost importance to us.

Together, we have been able to create a supportive atmosphere where team members can openly discuss their challenges and find ways to support one another’s mental health. It is a privilege to witness the positive impact this approach has had, as it not only enhances individual wellbeing but also contributes to a more harmonious and thriving work environment overall.

Kevin Breen

With over 20 years of extensive experience in cost management across various sectors such as health, local government, education, and residential, I bring a wealth of expertise as a highly skilled Chartered Quantity Surveyor. Recently, I made the decision to transition from my role as the UK Cost Management Lead for Health at Arcadis to join the dynamic team at Hive Projects.

In the construction industry, there are several notable challenges that have emerged as a result of the unprecedented economic slowdown experienced in 2021 and 2022. This slowdown was primarily driven by the combined impacts of Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Ukraine war. As a consequence, there has been a substantial increase in construction prices, leading to a hyperinflationary environment.

However, despite these difficulties, it is essential for us to adapt and find innovative solutions to address these ongoing issues. By actively addressing the impacts of the economic slowdown and exploring strategies to mitigate the adverse effects, we can strive to restore construction output levels and enhance the sector’s overall viability.

I am a passionate advocate for grassroots football, especially when it comes to children of all ages. Being a proud father of two sons who actively participate in football, I contribute to our local clubs by offering my assistance on match days and during training sessions. Additionally, I make sure to attend club fundraising events to show my support.

Dan Bagan hive projects

Dan Bagan

Senior Project Manager
BSc (Hons), SMSTS, NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management

I completed my qualification from Liverpool John Moore’s University, and sine then my background primarily revolves around construction site work. This experience proves advantageous as I am currently engaged in project management, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of both operational aspects.

Currently, I am working as a senior project manager on a housing scheme, which is a different industry than my previous experience in healthcare estates. I’m finding it enjoyable and informative and a great opportunity to broaden my skills by working with housing developers, local authorities and other stakeholders as well as expanding my understanding of the intrinsic relationships between each one. I’m also enjoying the variation in pace and technical requirements.

This project is beneficial to the community and contributes to addressing the housing crisis in the UK, which makes me proud and humbled to be able to play a part in positively impacting communities.

Arige Hallug hive projects

Arige Hallug

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working on schemes with teams at the University of Manchester, the University of Liverpool, the Science Museum Group, and the British Library. Together, we’ve tackled a variety of projects, ranging from cultural, to social initiatives and heritage preservation.

My background’s a bit of a mixed bag—I’ve been lucky to work on everything from research and development in the microscopy sector to delivering schemes at the world’s largest museum group.

One of my proudest moments in my career to date is working within the original team in setting up the first think tank network in the MENA region.

I’m passionate about women in construction based roles and have seen firsthand how the industry is changing and becoming more accessible to people in terms of career pathways and balancing work and family life requirements.

One of the things I’m most excited about is being able to mentor up and coming women who have recently entered the project management sector through the Hive Director Led Mentor Scheme. It’s part of the reason I joined the Hive team, their interventions to support a more diverse team at all levels of the business.

Paul Hamer

Paul Hamer

Associate Director

With over 17 years of experience in the industry, my focus has primarily been on public sector clients. Some of my most notable projects to date have been really diverse, ranging from the re-roofing of both the House of Commons and House of Lords at UK Parliament to the delivery of the first four UK venues for Flight Club Darts, including our very own Manchester location. More recently, I’m proud to have contributed to the Rob Burrow MND Centre in Leeds.

Outside of work, family takes up most of my time. I also have a deep love for sport, particularly for Huddersfield Town FC and cricket.

Max has five years of project management experience delivering projects in a range of sectors including health, commercial, stadia and retail. In order to achieve the best possible outcomes for clients, Max is able to translate clearly a client’s requirements and respond well to stakeholder feedback.

One particular highlight of Max’s career to-date was aiding the delivery of the new Anfield Stadium Main Stand project, including the redevelopment of the hospitality areas and Fan Zones.  His role was to oversee the construction works and quality of finish for the new high specification hospitality lounges and ensure the functionality of the new outdoor space surrounding the stadium for fans and commercial use was fit for purpose.

Max also assisted with the handover of Liverpool FC’s new Training Centre, in order to ensure the project finished on time due to the strict client deadline.

Josh Richardson

Project Manager
BSc (Hons)

I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a degree in Building Surveying and have accumulated several years of experience in the construction industry, with a particular focus on the health sector. This expertise has proven to be highly valuable in my current position at Hive Projects.

My industry experience has sparked an interest in healthcare projects because they are complex and challenging. I also appreciate how technology is rapidly advancing the medical field. Additionally, I am fascinated by engineering and infrastructure and enjoy learning how things work.

I am passionate about contributing to the growth and development of my native north Wales, particularly in terms of the economy and transportation. It’s important to me that rural areas receive attention, not just the larger cities in nearby North West of England.

Before joining Hive Projects, I was lucky enough to work in France for five years, which was an amazing experience. After coming back to the UK, and taking up my role within Hive Projects, I had the chance to shape some of the administrative processes and systems used in Hive, and I got to imbed these into our organisation. I also received valuable training which has made me more confident in my ability and skillset.

Since becoming a parent, I’ve become more interested in the future of jobs and education, and I want to help make work environments better for everyone, in terms of systems and processes but equally, making sure workplaces are a positive environment for peoples mental health and overall working practices.

Faye Threlfall hive projects

Faye Threlfall

Project Manager
BA (Hons), MSc, APM Fundamentals

I joined Hive Projects after completing my Master’s degree in Project Management from The University of Salford. I have since then primarily worked in the public sector, contributing to a wide variety of notable projects.

One project that stands out as a favourite of mine is the Temporary Modular Urgent Treatment Centre at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. It was a challenging project as there were critical time constraints, with the facility being built to alleviate winter pressures facing the A&E department. However, we were able to complete the project within the set timeline and under budget, which was a great achievement.

Something I’m conscious of currently is that the construction industry is facing multiple challenges in the wake of the pandemic and political conflicts. One major issue affecting almost all construction projects is the supply chain disruption, which is leading to a shortage of resources and materials. This scarcity is driving up project costs and impacting the timely delivery of projects.

Ed Wong

Ed Wong

Assistant Quantity
Surveyor

After finishing my degree in Quantity Surveying at the University of Hong Kong, I moved to the UK and joined Hive Projects. Since then, I have primarily worked on providing support to the teams in the area of quantity surveying for various large-scale projects.

History is one of my favourite subjects as it enables me to comprehend how past events have shaped the world we live in today and provides me with a context of identity, which is valuable. Recently, I had the opportunity to work on a project at Liverpool Waters, where understanding the place’s history and significance was essential in completing the work successfully.

As someone who is new to the UK, I am still getting familiar with the local construction industry, and the variances to how it operates overseas. However, I believe that the most significant challenge currently faced by the industry is the increasing cost of construction, which can be attributed to various geopolitical and environmental factors.

Pete Flint

Pete Flint

Senior Project Manager
BSc(Hons), ICIOB

I’ve joined the Hive team from Arcadis.  My background is predominantly within Education and Healthcare where I have delivered numerous programmes / projects from feasibility stage to project completion of varying scale and complexity including those within operational and challenging environments.  This includes working directly for Healthcare Trusts, Local Authorities, Special Project Vehicles (SPV), Main Contractors and FM Contractors that enables me to bring a wide range of experience and lessons to each project.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time studying Construction Management at the University of Manchester. I welcome the fact that the industry is embracing alternative pathways, such as apprenticeships, as effective ways to enter the sector and secure employment. I see apprenticeships as a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience and establish oneself in the industry.

Saddleworth School stands out as my preferred project due to its intricate nature, encompassing various aspects such as land ownership, planning, logistics, technical requirements, and the challenges posed by stakeholders.

Steve Curran

Senior Project Manager
BSc (Hons)

I’ve worked in the industry in various roles for 15 years and began by completing an apprenticeship in site carpentry and joinery. From there I progressed to University achieving a Distinction in Building Studies and then a first-class honors degree in Construction Project Management. My roles delivered during my studies were Design Engineering on behalf of Redrow Homes, where I completed road and sewer designs in order to achieve the necessary statutory approvals. I have also served as a lead technical advisor on behalf of The Department for Education, delivering new-build and refurbishing schools, as part of the Priority School Building Programme (PSBP) and the School Rebuilding Programme (SRP). Away from Education I have also led on the Project Management of Healthcare Projects, private residential developments, Local Authority lead projects and the refurbishment and rebranding of a Grade 2* Listed Hotel, as design by the renowned Architect, Alfred Waterhouse, in the center of Manchester (The Refuge Assurance Building).

I have a passion for promoting the benefits of health and fitness, which I believe can enhance overall wellbeing and boost productivity in the workplace. I am committed to creating more opportunities for young people by introducing them to career paths within the Construction industry. Furthermore, I am deeply interested in preserving our environment and ensuring a better future for generations to come. In the past, I have volunteered with tree planting organizations to improve outdoor spaces.

The Construction Industry has a reputation for being slow to embrace new technologies, particularly in the adoption of platforms that facilitate the implementation of Building Information Management (BIM) and data-driven delivery. I am of the opinion that the younger generation of professionals will play a crucial role in driving the adoption of these technologies, leading to improved efficiencies in project delivery and asset maintenance.

Kelly Godfrey

Kelly Godfrey

Head of Comms and Social Value
BA (Hons), CIPD

I lead the Communications, Social Value, and ESG activities for Hive Projects.

With my previous experience in the commercial, local authority, and higher education sectors I play a role in shaping and implementing Hive’s external presence. Responsible for setting the overall communication strategy and tone, aswel as ensuring we are engaging with our stakeholders at all levels. I take care of the social values for Hive; overseeing the development and implementation of our Social Impact strategy aswel as our DE&I plans.

I am genuinely interested in promoting equality in employment and have actively participated in projects aimed at bridging gender gaps in terms of employability, pay, and accessibility. Despite progress, it is alarming that the gender pay gap persists. Furthermore, the traditional workday structure often favours men and does not consider obligations such as school runs that are typically shouldered by women. I make it a point to stay informed on issues like these and take measures to remove barriers that discourage women from re-entering the workforce after having children.

As a member of the governing body of a local primary school, I have gained invaluable insights into the education system, which has been a fulfilling experience for me. In addition, I am also a board member of the Liverpool Chamber, an organisation that holds a special place in my heart for the invaluable support it provides to the business community.

James Quirk

James Quirk

Associate Director
BSc (Hons), APM Practitioner

My background primarily lies in project management within the commercial and residential sectors. Additionally, I possess significant experience and extensive knowledge in successfully delivering projects related to art and culture. This includes collaborating with local authorities, city councils, and stakeholders from the private sector.

If I had to pick a couple of projects that were pivotal moments in my career to date, I would mention the Vita St Albans scheme, which received a prestigious RIBA award. Being a part of that project was truly satisfying, knowing that our efforts were recognized and celebrated. The project management of commercial office developments is filled with excitement due to the unique social value they offer. Additionally, I take pleasure in working on projects that involve the restoration of neglected and undervalued historic buildings, such as Martins Bank in Liverpool. On these particular schemes, there is an enhanced sense of responsibility and a feeling of being a custodian of such historic, cultural spaces.

Chris Baxter

Chris Baxter

Senior Quantity Surveyor
BSc (Hons)

I graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Quantity Surveying. I’ve always said that I learnt more on my year placement, during my third year, than I did in my entire first two years at University, so if I had my time again, I would have explored doing an apprenticeship and worked whilst carrying out my studies. There are lots of these initiatives in place now, but they weren’t so commonplace back when I was coming out of school.

My background as a QS has mostly been split between the Health and Education teams. Knowing I was delivering projects that would provide vital healthcare facilities including new A&E wards, new maternity / birthing units and mental health wards or new learning environments within Universities gave me great job satisfaction. I was also lucky enough to work on the refurbishment of a Grade 1 listed medieval boundary wall at Chethams School of Music, which was a hugely unique heritage project to be involved with.

When I’m not working, I like to DJ, and I also spend time working with charities and community outreach programmes. Mental health in men is something which is close to my heart, and whilst over recent years, awareness has increased, especially around anxiety and depression, there is still a lot of work to be done to raise more awareness and improve services for mental health. Equally, I feel Homelessness is a real and growing social issue on the streets of Liverpool (and throughout the UK), I support local charities like Change and The Whitechapel Centre who are doing some great things within the city to make positive changes to people’s situations across the Merseyside region.

BSc (Hons)

Since a young age, I’ve had a passion for construction and property, beginning with the experiences of assisting my father in renovating our family home. It was during those formative moments that I realised my love for the construction industry.

I made the choice to join a part-time accelerated course while simultaneously working full time as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. I strongly believe that this decision provided me with a significant edge, as it allowed me to acquire both theoretical knowledge in Quantity Surveying and practical insights into the industry.

With a background of five years in Quantity Surveying within the housing sector, my intention was to broaden my understanding of construction within the healthcare industry and become a part of Hive. Throughout my career, I have gained valuable experience by working on various Supported Living and New Build projects for clients in both the private and public sectors, each with unique specifications and requirements.

Exploring the local landscapes of the Lake District, Peak District, or Wales through hikes and walks on weekends, and indulging in camping (when the weather permits!) brings me immense joy. Additionally, I consider myself a devoted food enthusiast, constantly seeking out new restaurants with friends and family.

Chris Gould

Chris Gould

Senior Project Manager
BSc (Hons)

I studied at Liverpool John Moore’s University for the first 2 years of my Building Surveying Degree course, before completing my degree on a Part-time basis at the University of Central Lancashire, whilst working in practice. I was also fortunate enough to complete a month-long Sustainability module at the University of Malaya, in Malaysia. As a result I am keen to encourage talent into the industry via alterative pathways having experienced different circumstances myself.

I have 10 years’ experience in the construction industry and have worked as both a consultant and client side Project Manager. Having spent much of my career as a Capital Project Manager in Aviation, I’ve successfully delivered a variety of complex projects within challenging, high-security environments. Managing multi discipline project teams across a vast array of project types, including new build offices & refurbishments, retail, and airside civil works. Having recently joined Hive as a Senior Project Manager, I bring more recent experience in the Social Housing sector, Public Sector Decarbonisation & complex Master planning.

I have a particular passion for contributing to the growth and improvement of my home city, Liverpool. Taking pride in the role I played in the recent application approval for Central Dock Neighbourhood, at the heart of Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters Masterplan. The recent approval of this application will enable essential infrastructure that will support the delivery of approximately 2,350 homes, as well as a 2 Hectare Central Park. A real catalyst for further development of our waterfront. Being able to be a part of advancements and the success within the Liverpool City Region is important to me.

Yvonne Nanyanzi

Yvonne Nanyanzi

Project Manager
BSc (Hons), MSc

I pursued a degree in Urban Studies and Planning at the University of Sheffield and later received sponsorship from my employer to undertake an MSc in Construction Project Management. Reflecting on my educational path, I wish I had been aware of construction-related degrees when I initially chose my undergraduate program. Such awareness might have offered me a more direct entry into the industry. Nevertheless, I loved my university experience and the skills it’s equipped me with.

Working on the Chester Northgate redevelopment was a fantastic opportunity for me as it was a complex historic project that was impacted by Covid and the Russian invasion of Ukraine so there was a lot to grapple with in terms of labour shortages, inflated costs and extensions of time. But it was a huge learning curve for me and it was rewarding to see the scheme open to the public.

I believe that one of the industry’s most significant hurdles is the adoption of digital technologies, especially within professional services. It is concerning that the construction sector is struggling with persistent issues related to costs and project timelines. However, I feel that embracing and implementing emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence, can help mitigate these challenges and optimise the industry.

I recently joined Hive Projects as an Assistant Graduate Project Manager after obtaining my BEng degree in Architectural Engineering earlier this year. I’m excited to be part of a fast growing SME and working on some pioneering schemes.

My move from Poland to England as a young teenager played a significant role in shaping my career path. It was during this transition that I developed a keen interest in the construction field. The diverse construction and architectural landscapes I encountered in England sparked my interest and set me on this career path.

Volunteering is at the core of my values. Over the past eight years, I’ve been actively involved with the Norbrook Youth Club, initially as a young leader and now as an integral part of the committee. It’s not just a commitment; it’s a cause that’s deeply close to my heart. Delivering on community projects is something I bring into my projects too, it’s important to me that we have a holistic approach to our work and that we consider our impact both socially, economically and environmentally.

With experience in law, construction research and social housing, I have recently joined Hive Projects as an Assistant Project Manager. My education isn’t your ‘typical’ PM route – I have a Law degree from Bangor University which has equipped me with vital skills such as analysis, problem solving and attention to detail. I also hold the IOSH Managing Safely certification, which shows my interest in implementing best practices and protocols.  I believe that a diverse workforce, where people of all backgrounds and disciplines leads to greater innovation, and overall, a more successful and happy team. This is something I value and partly why I decided to join the Hive team!

Outside the office, I channel my commitment to communities through volunteering at my local nature reserve; Rivacre Valley in Ellesmere Port. Here we have monthly events aimed at environmental conservation and community engagement. From litter-picking initiatives to guided nature walks, I strive to inspire my community to embrace, appreciate and preserve the natural beauty that surrounds them, which I believe can be found anywhere!

I started my journey in the construction industry with a Building Surveying degree at the University of Salford. I then went onto work across a wide range of sectors including water, telecoms, retail and infrastructure.

Since working in the industry, I now have 9 years’ experience working as a Project Manager both client and consultant side. I have obtained the APMQ qualification and now look to further my skills and education with Hive via the ‘Director Led Mentor Scheme’ and the robust CPD schedule!

My most recent project experience has been working with Clients who are seeking to improve their local areas with the levelling up fund. I find these schemes to be some of the most rewarding ways to support communities.

Outside of work I have a small family who keep me busy with lots of activities, when time allows, I’m keen to keep myself fit and active through running and CrossFit. Joining the Hive team has given me a number of new opportunities that I didn’t previously have; including volunteering and working with partner charities alongside my projects.

I have over a decade of experience in project management working for consultancies and developers, delivering projects in different sectors including Residential, Healthcare, Student Accommodation and Hotels. I also have experience of working with cross functional teams and stakeholders to assist with managing the mobilisation of new assets into operation.

As a Project Manager, I find satisfaction in bringing complex structures to life. My journey began with a fascination for creating and building, which naturally led me to this field where every day presents a new challenge and an opportunity to solve problems.

What I love most about my role is the ability to lead and collaborate with different teams. The camaraderie and collective effort towards a common goal is a great feeling. I thrive on the fast-paced environment and the need for precision and efficiency.

One of the highlights in my career was managing the delivery of a major Student Accommodation development (Peel Park Quarter), for The University of Salford where I studied for my MSc. The development won several awards and was recognised for its excellence in providing quality housing for students.

I have a passion for travel, exploring the wonders of the world and being in the natural environment. This has resulted in me doing volunteering work overseas and in the UK, most recently Conservation Volunteering in Waltham Forrest.

After finishing up my Building Surveying degree at the University of Central Lancashire, I dove into the practical side, focusing on stock condition surveys predominantly. Feeling the itch for some adventure at that point in my life, I seized the opportunity of a stint in the Royal Navy. It was an incredible journey, (pun intended!) providing not only travel opportunities but also a chance to fine-tune my leadership and management skills.

Upon returning to solid ground, I achieved my chartership. That was some years ago now, and I’ve successfully completed an array of projects within demanding and high-security settings. My experience spans across Higher Education, healthcare, commercial ventures, housing, heritage, and hotels. One standout project was the exhibition fit out works during the extension of the University of Manchester’s John Rylands Library – a truly memorable scheme for me, personally.

When away from work, I enjoy watersports when the weather is favourable, including paddleboarding and dingy sailing.  When not getting wet, family activities, DIY and travel fill up the other precious spare time.

What struck me about Hive, and what I find truly unique, is their team spirit. It’s no small feat to have such a tight-knit community when projects span large areas of the UK, and the team is wonderfully diverse. Yet, from day one, I could sense the genuine connection and engagement among the team members, and that’s what really drew me in.

My career in construction started in 2018, graduating the following year at Liverpool John Moore’s University with a degree in Quantity Surveying. Since then, I have worked within the residential, educational and commercial sectors on various new build and refurbishment schemes across the North West.

I joined Hive to gain experience within different sectors of the industry, with a particular interest in healthcare, aiming to develop relationships with new clients and enhance the skills I have learnt during my career. I also wanted to be a part of the social value work that Hive does, as I am a firm believer in supporting charities and giving back to the community.

Outside of work, I’m a big music fan and like to attend concerts, festivals and play the occasionally DJ set. I also enjoy playing football, having done so since the age of 6, and (unfortunately) follow my beloved Everton which is becoming more difficult every season!

Tom Mazzitelli

I’ve always had a passion for construction; I can remember receiving a JCB ride as a child for numerous birthdays and Christmas’. My love for the construction industry actually stems from architecture and seeing something being built from the ground up.

Still undecided on what I wanted to do coming out of high school, my options for college were very vague and I went into work full time in the retail sector. After a cancer diagnosis I reflected on where I was both personally and professionally and tapped into the things I enjoyed and began exploring my options which led me to return to education and study construction and the built environment HNC and subsequently a Quantity Surveying degree. This involved attending university one day per week and allowed me to develop both my theoretical and practical skills as I could learn on the job and in the classroom. I found this learning option really worked for me – getting the mix of hands on and theory was a good balance and allowed me to get a good idea of the industry.

Fast forward to today and with 6 years of experience as a PQS having worked on several projects in different sectors for a range of clients, an opportunity at Hive was too good to refuse. The projects, the core values and exponential growth really appealed to me and Im looking forward to the variety of schemes and sectors I’ll get to work on.

Aside from my role as a QS, I’m a huge fan of sports, most notably horse racing and you can often find me at racecourses up and down the country!

George Baines

Assistant Project Manager

I’m George, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the Hive team. My journey in construction management began at LJMU, where I studied Construction Management. Starting as an Assistant Project Manager for a North West based Construction Consultancy, I’ve had the privilege of working on a range of projects spanning residential, commercial, and fit-out developments.

Some of my most memorable experiences include contributing to projects like Youth Zones, Dock Branch Park, and a groundbreaking BTR scheme in Nottingham. But it hasn’t all been about work since graduating, last year I was lucky enough to be able to take a year out to explore the wonders of South East Asia and Australia, gaining new perspectives and taking in different cultures. Whilst travelling I began working once more in Melbourne, as a project coordinator for a fit out company.

Now I’ve returned home and I’m really looking forward to getting involved in projects on my home turf and settling into the Liverpool team at Hive. I’ll be working on some of our community focused schemes first – local authority and levelling up funded projects aimed at reigniting and regenerating towns and cities, which really interests me having previously worked on public spaces and schemes.

Catherine Sawley

Senior Project Manager

I have been in the construction industry for 24 years. I graduated with a degree in Interior Design and initially worked as a designer, and then design manager in secondary education, before moving into project management around 12 years ago.

I have been involved in health care, blue light and higher education projects and am excited about returning to health care with Hive Projects as I enjoy delivering technical projects that make a huge difference to the wellbeing of patients and staff as well as the wider community.

I truly believe construction is a fantastic industry to be involved in, and I am passionate about delivering projects and making things happen. It is great to see a project start on site following months (or years) of engagement and project development. It can be a challenging environment, but one that has taught me to be confident and resilient and to take care of my mental as well as physical health.

Finance Manager
BA (Hons)

Hi, I’m Caroline. I studied International Business and French at Sheffield Hallam University, which gave me the opportunity to live and work in France for a while. I’ve worked in finance for over 15 years, and alongside my career, I keep busy raising my two daughters, who are 8 and 10.

Running is a big passion of mine-I completed the Manchester marathon this year and am currently training for the London marathon in April 2025. I was drawn to Hive because of the well-being and ‘sports’ opportunities they organise for the team, which really aligned with my lifestyle. Plus, it’s such an inclusive and flexible workplace, offering a really nice work life balance, making it the perfect fit for me.

Matt Edge

Quantity Surveyor
BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying

I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in Quantity Surveying and have primarily worked in the private sector on new build office and residential projects. A career highlight was working on Eden, New Bailey- a new build office completely covered in a green wall, designed to operate as Net Zero. I’m particularly interested in the advancements in Net Zero construction and sustainability.

Having recently joined Hive, I’m excited to contribute to new schemes and gain more experience in sectors like healthcare and higher education, working with some key clients in the sector- having predominantly worked on commercial office projects. I was also keen on the social value work Hive does, which is uncommon for consultancies, but clearly a shared passion within the team, who do a lot to support community projects and charities in their regions too.

In my spare time, I follow my football team-Manchester United and love to try new restaurants!

Apprentice Quantity Surveyor

I’ve always been curious about the construction industry and wanted to understand how things work. After completing my A-levels, I decided to take a different route and pursue an apprenticeship with Hive Projects and the City of Liverpool College. This path allows me to combine hands-on experience with formal learning, which has been the perfect blend for me. I’ve developed a passion for Quantity Surveying as it satisfies both my curiosity about construction and my love for analytical thinking.

Hive Projects is committed to supporting alternative career pathways, and facilitate a number of apprenticeships- their team is incredibly supportive and inclusive. This approach made Hive feel like the perfect fit for me, allowing me to grow in a professional and welcoming environment.

In my free time, I enjoy baking, cooking, and spending time with my family. I also see myself as a bit of a food critic and love exploring new restaurants with friends.

Senior Project Manager
Beng (Hons) MCIOB

With over a decade of experience in the construction industry, I’ve had the privilege of delivering high-value, complex schemes across a range of sectors including education, local government, and commercial. My career has been shaped by time spent with leading consultancy firms, where I’ve worked on ambitious projects across the UK. This background has given me a strong foundation in project delivery and a deep understanding of how to navigate client challenges and build successful teams.

I’m passionate about creating spaces that serve communities and organisations, and I still get a buzz from seeing a project come to life. Knowing the hard work, collaboration, and dedication that goes into every stage of delivery makes the final product all the more rewarding. Playing a key role in helping clients realise their ambitions is what drives me.

Outside of work, I’m always up for an adventure, whether that’s travelling and exploring new places or heading out on my motorbike when the sun’s shining.

Project Manager
BA (Hons)

I graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a degree in Construction Management and have primarily worked in the private sector on a variety of projects, including fit-out, infrastructure, and industrial schemes. A highlight of my career has been working on a major office fit-out in Manchester, which had an incredible bespoke design and incorporated some cutting-edge technology. Having recently joined Hive Projects, I am excited to contribute to both a range of new schemes and the strong culture and team here.

I was also impressed by the social value work Hive does in the wider community. I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to provide pro-bono Project Management services to a local hospice and look forward to getting more involved in some of the charitable and volunteering options that Hive offers.

In my spare time when I’m not camping, I’m still outdoors, either on my bike or running!

Apprentice Project Manager

I am really happy to officially join the Hive Projects team as an Assistant Project Manager. Having spent the last two years with the business as a work experience student while completing my A-Levels, I have had the opportunity to learn about project management firsthand. After experiencing the team’s strong and supportive culture, I was keen to come back on board full time. While my experience has been primarily on healthcare projects, I am most looking forward to getting stuck into new projects and challenges across our commercial and housing sectors.

Outside of work, I love planning my travels and am looking forward to exploring Australia and Asia later this year

Graduate Project Manager

I recently graduated from Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) with a degree in Quantity Surveying, and I am excited to begin my professional journey with Hive Projects. A key reason I wanted to join the company was the feedback I had received about the team’s collaborative and supportive approach. With the number of graduates, apprentices, and junior project managers, it’s clear that Hive is committed to training and developing talent. I felt this would be a great environment to begin my industry experience and ensure I would be well supported by my colleagues. So far I’m impressed with the diversity of sectors we are delivering in, and think I’ll be able to gain a lot of experience in a variety of schemes.

Outside of work, I am an avid runner and love to compete. When I’m not doing that, you can find me at Anfield watching my team!
