Hive Projects is continuing its role as Project Manager for the large-scale, multi-phase redevelopment of Oldham Town Centre. Working in partnership with Oldham Council and Muse, we are overseeing the delivery of the “Creating a Better Place” strategy; an ambitious regeneration programme designed to reshape the borough’s economic and residential landscape.

At the heart of the programme is the conversion of underused brownfield sites into a sustainable, residential-led town centre. The partnership is currently progressing plans for up to 2,000 new homes across several key locations, including the sites of the former Leisure Centre and the Magistrates’ Court.

Our role involves managing the logistics of these developments to ensure they meet modern environmental standards while respecting Oldham’s unique industrial heritage.

A major component of the regeneration is the transformation of the Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre. This project involves the strategic repurposing of retail space to introduce:

• High Quality Workspace: Including ‘The Hive’ coworking space, designed to support local businesses and entrepreneurs.
• A New Home for Tommyfield Market: Relocating the historic market to a modern, purpose-built space to drive footfall.
• Cultural and Civic Facilities: Consolidating the town’s offer to create a more diverse and resilient town centre.

As Project Managers, Hive Projects is responsible for the oversight of these multi-million-pound workstreams. From initial planning through to delivery, we ensure that the programme remains on track to meet the Council’s long-term economic and sustainability targets.

The ongoing work in Oldham represents a significant shift in how town centres operate, moving away from a retail only focus toward a more balanced mix of living, working, and leisure.
