Hive were appointed to provide Project Management services for the remediation of RAAC identified throughout the existing school buildings. Approximately 60% of the site was found to contain RAAC which results in immediate closure due to the significant structural safety concerns. The works undertaken were reactive and required rapid mobilisation, effective decision making and close coordination with multiple stakeholders to enable the safe return of 1500 pupils into face-to-face education as quickly as possible.
Hive’s role including coordinating and appointment of a multidisciplinary design team and principal contractor, structural investigations, asbestos surveys and removal, procurement and delivery of temporary modular accommodation, risk management and interfaces between construction activities on a live site. Hive also acted as a central point of stakeholder engagement with the school and Department of Education, providing regular programme and progress updates which enabled the phased remediation and reinstatement of the school whilst minimising disruption to education. This project was delivered on time and included full reinstatement of education within the main school building in under 18 months, aligning with the critical GSCE exam period.
