LIPA Sixth Form Expansion

PROJECT Overview

About the Project

LIPA Sixth Form is a Further Education provider which focuses on Creative and Performing Arts.  The site is located on Upper Duke Street, Liverpool, adjacent to the Grade I Listed Anglican Cathedral.  It sits within the Canning Street Conservation Area.

Since opening in 2016, the Sixth Form has been oversubscribed annually.  In November 2022, the Sixth Form made a successful application to the Department for Education (DfE) for expansion and were awarded the largest (nationally) post 16 age group expansion fund; equating to half the national total fund available.

The funding was to be used for the expansion of the teaching facility to enable provision of vital additional learner places.

The proposed works comprised the creation of a three-storey wrap around the existing building including detailing for the forming of a new main entrance, specialist music practice facilities with acoustic treatments and modelling, together with learning suites.  Also, encompassed within the works, was improved access and storage for performance stage provision.
